The Meadowbrook School of Weston, a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school located seven miles west of Boston, seeks a middle school English and history educator for a full-time parental leave cover from September through November of the 2026–2027 school year. This includes teaching one section of 6th grade English, one section of 7th grade United States history, and one section of 8th grade Quest for Culture, along with serving as a student advisor.
We seek a candidate who believes the middle school years are essential and who wholeheartedly desires to teach, advise, and learn from middle school students. Teachers with coaching experience are encouraged to apply. At Meadowbrook, smart, passionate people join together in an expansive learning environment with rigorous academics and innovative curricula to inspire, challenge, and empower students to achieve at the highest level, connect deeply with a diverse community, and courageously create change. The English and history departments are dynamic and collegial. Faculty work collaboratively, meet weekly, and are devoted to the close study of literature, writing, and history, as well as to the growth of middle school students.
The middle school English curriculum includes texts such as Sandra Cisneros’s The House on Mango Street , William Golding’s Lord of the Flies , Mildred Taylor’s Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry , a graphic novel adaptation of Anne Frank’s diary, Elie Wiesel’s Night , Linda Sue Park’s A Long Walk to Water , and George Orwell’s Animal Farm . Each grade studies a Shakespeare play. The current sequence is A Midsummer Night’s Dream in sixth grade, Macbeth in seventh grade, and a teacher-selected play in eighth grade. Students also complete a poetry unit each year. Core skills include analytical writing, active reading, Harkness-style discussion, and creative writing across genres. This role includes teaching one section of 6th grade English.
Our history program includes three courses: geography (6th grade), United States history (7th grade), and Quest for Culture (8th grade). This role includes teaching one section of 7th grade United States history and one section of 8th grade Quest for Culture. The 7th grade course builds historical consciousness and core academic skills through the study of key themes- freedom, resistance, and belonging- and includes work with primary sources, research, discussion, and analytical writing. Quest for Culture in 8th grade deepens students’ understanding of global cultures and perspectives through projects, texts, and guest speakers. The course includes an extended research project culminating in a critical essay and a Facing History and Ourselves unit, taught in partnership with the English department, using the Holocaust as a case study to explore moral choice and responsibility.
A successful candidate will be an educator who is growth-minded and values inquiry, project-based learning, innovation, and collaboration among students and faculty. We seek an educator with a demonstrated background or interest in cultural competency, curriculum development, and technology integration.
